This workshop is an opportunity for medical students to interactively develop their leadership, communication, management and teamwork skills. Participants will also further their understanding of medico-politics, glean insights into dealing with the challenge of the medical profession and be given the opportunity to hear and ask questions of prominent healthcare professionals. PUGGY HUNTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Scholarships The closing date for the Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme has now been extended to 22 August 2008. The Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme (PHMSS) is a Scheme aimed at helping address the under-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in health professions and to assist in increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with professional health qualifications. The Scheme provides financial assistance of up to $7,500 per year for part time study, and up to $15,000 per year for full time study. Scholarships are available for students who wish to study in 2009 at the undergraduate or TAFE level in the areas of: * Aboriginal health worker * Allied health (excluding pharmacy) * Dentistry/oral health * Health service management * Health promotion/education * Medicine * Mental health * Midwifery * Nursing Applicants must identify as and be able to prove their Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status. | The AMSA National Leadership Development Seminar (NLDS) | ||

The AMSA NLDS is a prestigious three day seminar held at Parliament House, Canberra. It is attended by medical students from the 19 Australian medical schools and three delegates from Monash will have the opportunity to attend. It will be held from September 1st to September 3rd. The AMSA NLDS is proudly supported by the Minister for Health and Ageing, The Hon. Nicola Roxon MP. Delegates are provided with an opportunity to question parliamentarians about issues facing medical students and Australia's health system today. Attendees also participate in workshops designed to improve skills in advocacy, media and negotiation. This seminar is an opportunity for medical students to spend three days exploring the concept of leadership with prominent figures in Australian health and politics. Applications are open to all medical students with
leadership aspirations. Applications will close at midnight on 1 August 2008.
Successful applicants will be notified on 11 August 2008. The application form

AMSA is looking for student volunteers to help out with the 2008 Emergency Medicine Challenge. This event is held each year in
conjunction with AMSA's National Convention. All university medical
schools submit a team to the competition, who each complete eight
10-minute emergency scenarios. Every scenario is assessed and the team
that scores highest overall is the recipient of the AMSA Emergency
Challenge Cup. In 2008 the event is sponsored by Welch Allyn. If you are interested in being an ACTOR or a STATION COORDINATOR, then we would love to hear from you! The time commitment is minimal and your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Delegates and not-delegates of Convention are equally welcome to help out. It'll be fun, we promise! The Australian Medical Students'
Association (AMSA) is proud to open applications for the Australian delegation
to attend the 57th August General Assembly (GA) of the International
Federation of Medical Students' Association (IFMSA). This year's August Meeting
will be held in Ocho Rios, Jamaica from the
7th to the 13th of August, 2008. In Jamaica, the theme for this
March Meeting will be "Nutrition and Health", a topic that affects all
areas of the world in different contexts. Academia at the
conference will address a broad array of aspects exploring how nutrition may
negatively influence the health of communities, and aims to develop student-led
practical solution, such as initiatives, advocacy pathways, and awareness
campaigns, to combat such challenges. Applications can be sent via

| AMSA National Exchange Officer - Call for Applications | ||

The
Australian Medical Students Association (AMSA) is opening applications for the
position of National Exchange Officer (NEO) to lead the Australian exchange
program as part of the Standing Committee of Professional Exchange (SCOPE) in
the International Federation of Medical Students Associations' (IFMSA).
AMSA is looking for an
enthusiastic medical student to take on the role of National Exchange Officer,
and coordinate this exchange program throughout Australia. As
part of the role, the NEO will liaise with the five universities in Australia
that currently have a local exchange committee, which is run by Local Exchange
Officers (LEOs). Furthermore, the NEO should aim to promote and expand the
exchange program within Australia to maximise its beneficial effect.
To fulfill their role, the NEO will be invited to attend the
General Assemblies of the IFMSA, held every August and March in different parts
of the world. Applications can be sent via
email to the AMSA Global Health Officer before 5pm AEDST, Sunday
