What is the
The annual ball held by MUMUS (Monash
University Medical Undergraduates’ Society) is one of the most highly
anticipated in the calendar year.
In 2008, the ball will be held on Saturday
20th September at Telstra Dome in Docklands, a very accessible
location in the heart of the CBD.
Who will be there?
Traditionally, the majority of attendees
have been medical students and their guests; however anyone is welcome!
In previous years, the balls have been
split up into pre-clinical (Years 1 and 2) and clinical (Years 3 to 5).
However, the events were combined in 2006 and 2007, resulting in a sell-out
success!
This year, with a larger venue and a
greater number of seats, we aim to accommodate more attendees than ever before.
How do I get a ticket?
Tickets are available online from www.unitix.com.au
where you can pay by credit card. Tickets are $90 for MUMUS members and $95 for
non-members.
There will also be limited cash sales at
the Clayton campus in the weeks leading up to the ball. The dates and location
of these sales will be posted on Blackboard so make sure to check regularly.
Please note that all cash tickets will
cost $95. There are only a limited number of tickets available, so purchase them
early to avoid disappointment!
Why have the prices increased from previous
years?
It is important for MUMUS to emphasise that
the 2008 Medical Ball is NOT profitable event for the club. Every year we aim to keep prices as low as
possible, but all costs have increased this year.
Firstly, food prices have gone up due to
the drought and alcohol prices have increased across
the board, particularly with new State Government laws.
Secondly, inflation increases the prices
marginally every year. With increasing student numbers, and our desire to
accommodate as many as possible for this popular event, we have had to move to
a much larger, and thus more costly venue. We strive
to improve the ball experience for all Monash medical students.
If compared to other university balls,
the Monash University Medical Ball has very competitive prices. The Monash University Law Ball set their
prices at $110 for members and $120 for non-members and the
How many people are on a table? How do I
organise my table?
There will be 10 people on a table this
year. As soon as you have purchased your ticket and organised a table of 10,
you can enter your details here http://mumus.med.monash.edu.au/table.html.
Dietary requirements can also be specified at this time.
We recommend that you attempt to get a
full table of 10, but if you cannot, you can tell us on the form that you only
have a partial table, and we will take care of the rest.
What do I wear? Is the theme really that
important?
The 2008 Medical Ball is a formal
event. Dress code for the evening is
black tie. This means men should at least be wearing a suit, and ladies should
be wearing a dress. Keep it elegant and stylish, and you will be fine. The
theme is more for décor and setting the scene rather than for attire.
What will I need on the night?
It is very important that you bring your
ID (the 2008 Medical Ball is an 18+ event) and the ticket that you receive from
UniTix. The tickets will have a barcode that will
need to be scanned in order for you to enter the venue. Please note that if you
do not have either your ID or your ticket then we cannot guarantee entry.
I have special dietary requirements!
What do I do?
Please specify all dietary requirements
when you book your table. We will be able to cater for all allergies, as well
as for religious requirements. Just make sure it’s written down so we know
about it. If you have
any concerns or questions please direct them to either Matt Harvey (mjhar12@student.monash.edu.au)
or Danika Thiemt (dethi1@student.monash.edu.au).
What about the afterparty?
At the time of writing, we cannot yet
reveal the afterparty venue. Check back here for more
information closer to the event. We’ll also email all attendees before the
night to let you know the details.
Can I get a refund on my ticket?
Tickets sold by MUMUS are
non-refundable. However, you can sell your ticket to someone else if you cannot
attend, but you must let us know 48 hours before the event.
We will require your receipt number,
name and contact details, and the name and contact details (email address and
phone number) of the person you will be selling your ticket to.
I’ve got a question that you haven’t
already answered. What do I do now?
If you have any outstanding questions,
simply email the ball co-conveners Matt Harvey (mjhar12@student.monash.edu.au)
or Danika Thiemt (dethi1@student.monash.edu.au) and
we will get back to you shortly.
